14.11.2009

Bruce Sterling
Special guests at S+F festival: from the life achievement award Urania d’argento recipients, Sir Christopher Lee and Roger Corman, to the president of the jury, one of the founders of cyberpunk, Bruce Sterling. Do not miss the other events: for example Nocturno, meetings with cult film director Enzo G. Castellari and acclaimed film director Federico Zampaglione, front-man of Italian band Tiromancino.
Roger Corman will break the ice, on Sunday 22nd November at Miela Theater. Corman, American director and producer, king of B-movies, talent scout (he discovered Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Joe Dante, Jack Nicholson, just to name a few) will meet the public in the afternoon, and then it will be screening his famous movie X - The Man With The X Ray Eyes.
Afterwards, historic Italian alternative band Massimo Volume will perform live, setting to music the visionary, experimental silent movie The fall of the house of Usher(1928) by Jean Epstein, based on Poe’s novels.
World-famous actor Christopher Lee, recently knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, a legend in his own lifetime with some 250 works, ranging from legendary Dracula by Terence Fisher to the role of Saruman in the trilogy of Lord of the Rings, will teach a master class in the afternoon of friday 27 november.
Lee will meet the audience to present the latest film he starred in, Triage by Danis Tanovic.
Two great opportunities to come face to face with the icon of horror and contemporary sci-fi.
Nocturno nights will offer the chance to meet with Enzo G. Castellari and enjoy with him the screening of two classics: Fuga dal Bronx (Escape from the Bronx) and Quel maledetto treno blindato (The Inglorious Bastards). The latter deeply influenced Tarantino and inspired him to make Inglorious Bastards.
Among the events in partnership with the historic cinema magazine Nocturno, there will be the preview of Federico Zampaglione’s new horror, Shadow. He will be attending the festival to meet the audience and will receive from Nocturno Cinema a special award for the “new visions”, created for the most striking new works in European cinema.
The group of literary guests will be leaded by Bruce Sterling, cyberpunk guru, author of works such as “Schismatrix” and editor of the fundamental short-story anthology “Mirrorshades”. Sterling, besides being president of the jury of the festival, will be one of the speakers of meetings about art and science taking place at Revoltella Museum of Contemporary Art in Trieste.
