Previews, retrospectives, competitions, special events and meetings with cinema and literature authors are the core of the festival, as usual. The opening night will be marked by an unmissable preview, thanks to the collaboration of the Italian branch of Universal: Death Race by Paul W.S. Anderson , with Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane and Joan Allen. Death Race is a remake of 1970s classic Death Race 2000, produced by Roger Corman. Amongst the movies that have already been selected for the Neon section are: Chemical Wedding, written by Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson; Nightmare Detective 2 by Shinya Tsukamoto, sequel of the dreamlike adventures of the investigator; Tres Dias, debut of Spanish independent filmmaker F. Javier Gutiérrez; Puffball, directed by master Nicholas Roeg, starring Donald Sutherland and Miranda Richardson. Voyage Fantastique will draw its attention to the new frontiers of French digital cinema. Amongst the most awaited-for events, there is a panel on 2001: A Space Odyssey, forty years after the theatrical release of Stanley Kubrick masterpiece. International speakers and lecturers will talk about this milestone in science fiction cinema history, and Michel Ciment, director of Positif magazine, has already confirmed his presence for the occasion, together with Giuseppe Lippi (Urania), Lorenzo Codelli (Cineteca del Friuli) e Fabio Pagan (SISSA). Finally, a not-to-be-missed appointment with legendary Ray Harryhausen: the stop-motion master will talk in videoconference to present his new book A century of model animation, written with Tony Dalton.
